Welcome!

At Butte College, we are ready to help you learn English for FREE! Our friendly, professional instructors welcome you to practice reading, writing, speaking, listening, and grammar in a fun environment with lots of support. 

Classes are offered in-person, conveniently in the evenings at the Butte College Chico Center and Glenn County Center in Orland. They are open entry/open exit so you can sign up any time.

Steps to Sign-up:

1. Choose a course from our current classes.

2.   Fill out our ESL Application:  English Application or Spanish Application/Formulario de Solicitud

3. Email the application to esl@vaftizo.com and provide the location (Chico Center or Glenn Center) and course that you want to take. For example: Chico Center, ESL 311-C1874. 

4. Call one of the centers to schedule an appointment to meet with Alicia, ESL Student Success Specialist, to finalize your registration. Chico Center: 530-895-1352. Glenn County Center: 530-895-2429.

5.  Go to class and have fun learning English! 

Students enrolled in Butte College classes have access free resources such as tutoring, computer labs, library, clubs, Undocumented Student Center, counseling and academic coaching, professional career exploration tools, job placement, health clinic, Disabled Student Programs & Services, bus passes, and more! 

Frequently Asked Questions:

Are there hidden fees or costs for textbooks? No. Our non-credit (zero unit) classes are completely free.

Can I enroll in courses if I do not have a high school diploma or G.E.D.? Yes! You can enroll even if you did not graduate high school. 

Can I register for classes if I am not a U.S. citizen? Yes! You may register if you do not have your papers or a social security/TIN. Undocumented students are welcome.

Am I too old to be a Butte College student? No! You are never too old to learn. We welcome K-12 and adult learners of all ages. 

What if I can't make it to all the class sessions? ESL classes are non-credit. If you have to miss classes, it will not affect your G.P.A. 

Will I be able to join if I can't begin at the start of the semester? Yes! Classes are open entry/open exit, meaning you can enroll at any time during the semester. If you have to drop the class, there is no penalty. 

What if I do not have transportation? Butte College buses run in Butte County. If you live in Glenn County, we will provide free monthly Glenn Ride public bus passes.
